If you hang out in any online space for history fans, you’ve probably seen a few AI images recently from MyHeritage floating around. You upload a bunch of photos of yourself and the MyHeritage AI Time Machine gives you about 500 images, putting your likeness into artwork and photos of several different timeframes. I did this for myself last night and I wanted to share some of my favorites. I also share a few tips if you want to try this yourself.
But first, a few disclaimers.
I’m aware a lot of AI art creation tools are created by sketchy companies who then use your photos for nefarious stuff later. Going by their website, images uploaded to the AI Time Machine are not sold or repurposed but are deleted immediately after the “model” has been generated.
AI-created art is a really touchy subject and for good reason. These types of tools are to be used for silly fun and should not be used as a replacement for hiring artists for their work or purchasing stock photos or commissioning portraitists for images you plan to use for commercial purposes.
I should also add that just because MyHeritage provides you with about 500 images, that doesn’t mean you’re getting 500 good images. I’ll just say it: most are quite bad. The generator kind of hates glasses (not great for people who wear glasses all the time) and anyone with an ample bosom? Well, it’s about to get ample-er.
Ok! On to the silliness.
