As soon as I found out Jen DeLuca’s novel, Well Met, was based at a renaissance faire, I knew I had to read it.
Emily, dealing with a bad breakup, moves to an unfamiliar town to help her sister and niece after a bad car accident injury. Emily ends up volunteering at the local renaissance faire. Plenty of witty banter and sexy pirate descriptions ensue.
I don’t go for romance novels often but this one made me want to read more in the genre. This contemporary romance was a delight to read—so much fun, so sassy, and so touching. Emily’s lack of confidence due to a shitty ex is relatable and a shy English teacher has never seemed so sexy.
I’ve only had the chance to visit one renaissance faire but I’m desperate to go to another, especially after reading Well Met. Readers who pick up this gem will also come to adore the friends Emily makes during her journey as well as the sisterly bond she gets for the first time in her life. Come for the sweetness. Stay for the sexy pirates and kilts.
Just a warning: don’t listen to the audiobook in public like I did. My cheeks must have been blazing. Things get pretty steamy and baby, it’s all good.
