I inhaled this audiobook over the course of the No Man’s Land that are the days between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. I tend to go through audiobooks quicker than physical books and I usually don’t review the audiobooks like they are specifically audio, but in this case, I’m going to.
Because the audiobook for Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid was fan-friggin-tastic.
Written like a filmmaker interviewing various people and then splicing their sound bites together to make a documentary, Daisy Jones plunks you down into the exciting, dramatic, drug-addled, over-the-top world of 1970s rock and roll. Reminiscent of Almost Famous (and probably every biography of Fleetwood Mac), Daisy Jones is a lot of fun, but also very intimate and heartbreaking. I cried over this book, and not for the reason I expected.
The audiobook includes the voice talents of Jennifer Beals, Pablo Schreiber, Benjamin Bratt, Judy Greer, and a lot of others. They really bring the story alive and without a ton of descriptions too, because people just don’t talk that way. But everything still felt very real. Over the course of about a decade, the reader gets to join the band on the road, in the recording studio, and on the stage as their careers as rock superstars hit their heights.
After listening to this incredible audiobook, I’m so excited for the upcoming TV series. A really great, touching novel. I’m definitely going to check out more from this author.
